    Default Liver function test results.

Well I got a full blood work done and everything come back golden except this.

Liver function consistent with mild hepatocellular damage.

The values that are worth of note:

    Bilirubin 26 (<25)
ALT 68 (<51) This is the one of concern
All other values are well within the normal range.

Although I did note that comparison to previous blood tests in 2007 the ALT value was also elevated above normal to 59.

Now let me say I don't drink very often at all, only the occasional social drink if I am not cutting, and this is not the result of c17a alkylated steroid use.

If anyone could throw some ideas at me as to what would perhaps be the cause and a possible solution to fix it I am all ears.

    Cheers.

    Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT or SGPT)
This protein is found primarily in the liver. It is released into the blood when there has been some sort of liver tissue damage.
    Normal values: less than 35
Elevated: Indicates that liver tissue damage has occurred as a result of infection, medications, obstruction, cirrhosis or injury to the liver.
Below normal: There is no known disease process that results in a low ALT level.

please also indicate which of the numbers you have presented that are the figure you scored a syou have the numbers listed and the in-brackets listed, it would also be good to see what the levels measurements are based on ie ng/l ml/l etc etc

The numbers I scored at the ones not in the brackets. The numbers in the brackets are what is indicated as the normal level (i.e less than 51) compared to my 68. The level measurements are U/L.

I have not been on any medications and I don't appear to be suffering any physical symptoms of infection.

The only thing I can think of is that I might be sensitive to the supplements I use. Arginine, tri-creatine malate, glutamine and of course protein. Although I can't find any literature to indicate that this might be the cause. The only thing I have found is that Niacin is toxic to the liver (this is part of my pre-workout formula) although the dose I am using isn't anywhere near as to what would cause liver toxicity. All things I shall bring up with the doctor next appointment none the less.

    Hi,

Liver issues are very close to my heart (and pancreas, and stomach, and...) and if all the other liver values are in range, then I really don't think you have a huge issue.

Do you take any liver supps? Try some high dose milk thistle for a month and then have your liver function checked again. A high-ish AST can come from range of things other than those you've listed. Toxins, inflammation, metabolic disorders, for example.

What other tests have you had? Anything out of the ordinary?

Next time you have blood tests done have your homocysteine and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels checked, if you haven't already.

Yeah had one just over a week ago. Blood pressure, liver function everything is normal. The doctor told me that it's not unusual for it to be slightly above the average range and nothing to be concerned with.

    LOL... nice.

Still worth adding something like Milk Thistle or R-ALA to your supp regimen to keep the liver in tip top shape.
