I have seen doctors at medical centres who've been excellent, others need to be exported.
That aside:
There are some fundamental problems with doctors:
1. They practice curative medicine, that is, it's about treating symptoms, usually with drugs.
2. They are woeful at preventative medicine, because it's not focussed on at medical school, and it requires the doctors to take a COMPLETE history.
3. GPs, by definition, are "general" practitioners, and their knowledge across many areas is rudimentary at best.
4. Medical Centres are desigined to process as many patients as possible to maximise returns based on medicare rebates. That should not excuse them from delivering a reasonable service.
5. Most doctors are reluctant to admit that their patients may know as much as they do on certain topics. eg I had to explain to one GP what the treatment was for Haemocromstosis, the illness I have, despite the fact it's the most common genetic blood disorder in Australia.
The medical profession, like any other sector in Australian society, has its best and its worst. The point of this thread, unless I'm mistaken, is to give people access to resources to make a complaint if they feel their doctor has in some way failed them. That, imo, is a good thing.
If nothing is said/done, then nothing changes.
