    Default Various Protein Sources

Ok I have had this talk with people many times, and now I want to see what you guys think.

Ok we all know you can protein from various sources (plants, animal proteins, etc), but does it really matter where you get it from?

In my opinion, they would be both similar if you got your protein from plant or from animal products, just as long as you got the right amount of protein. Plant sources of protein sometimes only offer small amount of protein but if you eat an ample amount then surely it would be no different than getting it from say, a steak or from a chicken breast would it not?

I mean, the amino acids and all the proteins would be there you would need to build muscle anyway.

    What do you guys think?

It is best to get protein from whole foods, but i enjoy shakes and they are quick and easy. WPI straight after training, slow release in the arvo and 1 before bed. I do eat a lot of whole foods too like, chicken, eggs, tuna, steak/meat but these shakes are usually taken at times to tie me over until dinner or lunch or something.

like beans and lentils and stuff like that? i think kidney beans supposed to be high in protein. id consider them a more carbs source then a protein but yeah they are good. Fk now i want lentils lol

I'm not vegeterian. OK this stemmed from being somewhere they didnt serve meat cause we had some vegeterians anyway, I was going for the foods with like chickpeas and lentils and stuff in em and making sure I had enough. Another gym goer there was like there no use eating them the proteins not as good as in meats. So this sort of stemmed from that. to me protein is protein. it better to get it from foods than shakes in my opinion.

I agree that protein is protein but sources like meat can be better because they provide you also with fats that increase testosterone levels. I haven't seen a lentil or kidney bean do that yet lol

It does matter where the source of protein comes from because different sources have a different make up of the essential amino acid profile. Your body needs all the essential amino acids so the foods that have all these are said to have complete protein. However different foods have differing amounts of usable protein.
The following is a list of the protein utilization of different foods:
    Eggs: 94%
    Milik: 84%
    Fish: 80%
    Cheese: 70%
    Meat: 70%
    Soybean: 68%

Yes that's the idea. Vary it up and you'll benefit. For example I predominately eat red meat only after training. Then chicken or fish later in the day. Throw in a shake somewhere and some cottage cheese in between and you've hit all the sources that S Arms mentioned.

Just buy the supermarket brand and then add pineapple pieces to the cheese. Apparently pineapples have an enzyme that helps break down the protein. So good for you and tastes good.

I used to make an omlette.. Now i cbf in the morning.. oats with protein powder and soy milk is the goer..

For smokeo, i have 6 boiled eggs.. Just ditch the yolks.. Really easy to eat IMO..better than scrambled and i can eat them on the go if need be id de-shell them before hand if i know i got a hard day the next day.

I split mine from chiken, red meat, fish (pink salmon and tuna) and eggs.. Whey shakes are standard here too.. Never bothered getting protein from anywhere else to be honest.. Im just sticking with what i know for now.

Your body requires various types of amino acids to build lean mass. Different protein sources contain differing ratios of these aminos. Let's not forget that different foods, protein included contain different sources of vitamins and minerals. Eating the same foods not just protein can cause nutrient defiencies.
