I was kinda hesitant to buy Kai Greene's "Overkill" DVD, mainly because it was produced and pushed by Kai's sponsor - Musclemeds. As you are probably aware, when a sponsor gets involved with any sort of video footage then it more than likely becomes one big ad. But to my surprise, there was only about 4 ads during the whole 1 and a half hour DVD.
It wasn't put together like your normal Bodybuilding DVD, which usually centres around the training, it was more of a documentary similar to the layout of Jay Cutlers "All Access" DVD. It still however had plenty of training in it, and the training surely was intense and pretty hardcore. Shot firstly in his home town gym, then at Golds Gym during the 7 weeks of contest prep for the Mr Olympia, this DVD delves deep into what makes Kai tick, what is his inspirations and focuses a lot on the bond between him and his trainer Oscar Ardon.
One thing I was looking forward to in this DVD is listening to Kai speak, or more so what he speaks about, because many of you already know how philosophical he is, and that everything this he says is with much thought and tends to stick in your mind like glue. At one point he gets pretty full on in his moment in the camera, he's talking about the rage that would have to be inside a person to be able to life 805lbs (referring to Ronnie), and Kai goes from his normal placid self, to a kind of scary version of himself, to emphasise the rage that he is referring to.
This DVD also touches on his 4th place finish in the Olympia, and how Kai and Oscar feels about this placing, which I have not seen nor heard of till now and can tell you is very interesting to hear. Trust me this portion is well worth the watch.
Overall Kai's DVD "Overkill" is a great addition to anyone's collection, I liken it to Jay Cutlers "All Access" in how much I enjoyed the DVD, but the only downfall I needed to express (which is a stretch in itself) that the quality of the picture was not the greatest. It was like I was watching a VHS pretty much the entire length of the DVD, which I guess could be portrayed as making the DVD more hardcore, but it certainly does come off as annoying.
